04/30/2009. Remarks by
Ray Watkins: "The Gyrodyne (originally known as the Fairey-Bennett One or FB-1) was a private venture to satisfy Ministry of Supply Specification E.4/46. This aircraft was the second prototype which was completed in March 1948. After a fatal accident with the first prototype (G-AIKF) in 1949, G-AJJP was grounded and was later modified to become the
Jet Gyrodyne. (The name 'Gyrodyne' was a contraction of the description of gyratory aerodyne)."
