Photographed at Caboolture Airfield, Caboolture, Queensland, Australia, July 30, 2013, by Ron Smith
06/23/2025. Remarks by
Johan Visschedijk: "Based on the J/1 Autocrat, the J/5 Adventurer is a three-seat high-wing monoplane light aircraft, powered by a 130 hp de Havilland Gipsy Major I four-cylinder air-cooled inverted in-line engine. This type was produced especially to meet the requirements in Australia and New Zealand.
The pictured aircraft was built in 1947 and was imported new by Australian Auster dealer Kingsford Smith Air Service at Mascot Aerodrome, Sydney.
(VH-KSP) (
Ed Coates Memorial Collection)
It was registered as VH-KSP on November 8, 1948, was active till 1975, when it was withdrawn from use for unknown reasons, stored and most likely deregistered. The aircraft reappeared being reregistered as VH-KSL on November 27, 1992, to Terence van de Graaf of Buderim, Queensland. Only twelve days later, December 9, its previous registration VH-KSP was assigned to an ex-Irish J/1N Alpha (ex-EI-AVW).
The J/5 Adventurer VH-KSL is still registered."
